The music of American electronic rock duo Phantogram consists of beat-driven, dreamlike songs that incorporate psychedelic pop vocals.
The group is comprised of longtime friends Sarah Barthel (keyboards, vocals) and Josh Carter (guitar, vocals) and was formed in 2007.
They also opened for Muse during the European leg of the Drones World Tour in April 2016.
The band was originally called Charlie Everything, which was an inside joke name.
"We had two songs written and for some reason wanted to get out there and play and see what we could do," Carter said in a 2010 interview with Reverb.
The duo recorded a song for The Hunger Games, but it wasn’t in the film.
"The lyrics kind of connected to the storyline, so that's why our label was like, 'Oh, this song could work,' " said in an interview with the Denver Post Barthel of the track "Lights." "It was actually a really old song that we had never finished and ended up recording when we were doing the new album." Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter had only planned on releasing their debut record locally.
In 2010, they enlisted drummer Tim Oakley, formerly of the Mathematicians, for their tour.
